According to its basic mission, the institute aims at fostering bioethics and related legal frameworks in Finland in various ways. Besides this work, the institute focuses its efforts on a group of selected projects.

Current selected projects:

  • Clinical bioethics (especially in the context of personalized medicine)
  • Fair priority setting in health care
  • Privacy in biomedical research
  • Bioethics and new intelligent systems (for example, mobile systems, artificial intelligence, robots)
    • Care robots in collaboration with the Robots and the Future of Welfare Services (ROSE) research consortium of the Academy of Finland
  • Worst case bioethics (especially serious epidemics and pandemics)
  • The interconnections between well-being and environment, and the bioethical choices in this regard
